Assistant Chairs

What: Simply put, Assistant Chairs ('ACs') are the eyes and ears of the Committees. ACs' duties principally include a) managing committees through debate moderation, b) assisting Chairs in the running of the committees, and c) answering delegates' both procedural and substantive questions. Also, in addition to helping choose delegate awards, ACs may be called upon to perform additional tasks depending on the situation. In sum: ACs and the Chairs make up the committees' leadership.

Who: AC positions are open only to undergraduate students enrolled at the University of British Columbia.

Where: During the conference, your time will be mostly spent on-site at our conference venue. Pre-conference, you will often find yourself at UBC in ROP ('Rules of Procedure') and AC training sessions (to be determined). Post-conference you will find yourself periodically caught up in many, many wonderful memories of your time at WorldMUN 2012.

When: The conference takes place from March 11th to March 15th, 2012. ACs will be required to attend training sessions. These training sessions will begin after Christmas and carry through to the beginning of the Conference. We'll announce these dates by early-October.

Why: Serving as a committee AC for one of the world's most prestigious Model UN conferences is, for most, a reward in itself. However, if leading exciting debates, making new friends, sharing wonderful experiences, and having an all-out blast doesn't quite do it for you, we can also offer to provide a reference letter to you by conference-end.

For more information, please feel free to contact any of the staff on our Academic Resources team http://www.vancouver2012.org/?page=volunteer(at)2012 (See bottom of webpage)
